The John Denver sanctuary is located on the river by the Rio Grande park. At the intersection of Main St. and Mill St. you'll make a left at the hotel Jerome and drive down the hill (away from the mountain). At the soccer field on your right find a place to park as it's at the back of the field. Just find the river and it's on the banks.

If you're staying at a hotel in Aspen then don't drive, it's easy walking distance from anywhere, just get further detailed directions from your front desk.

I don't know of any other John Denver related places in town that you can access in summer. Hopefully a fan of his music will be reading and can jump in with more information.

If you're skiing Aspen mountain in winter (and I suppose technically hiking up there in summer) there is a small John Denver shrine hidden in the mountains as well as shrined to many other famous people around the mountain such as Jerry Garcia. Unless you're a truly avid fan AND avid hiker I wouldn't recommend going to it.

Local tradition holds, however, that locations of the Aspen Mountain shrines must never be put in writing but instead found by asking around once in town. Check at your front desk.

musicloverforever, We stumbled into the JD Rock Garden when one of the locals recommended the place--we loved it. Follow Jennifer74's directions. There is a nearby stream, so we thought it was relaxing to look at the rocks (inscribed with the words of John Denver's songs) and listen to the faint sound of the stream.

Jennifer74, would you be so kind as to recommend a nice place for dinner? Thank you in advance.

Hi Travel-amigo- There are a huge array of restaurants and a wide choice of price points. Recommendations would depend on what you like and your price range. Use the search box for Aspen Restaurants and you'll find a lot of discussion of the merits of many in the previous forum posts. Check that out then post again if you need narrowing things down. Have a nice trip!
