Skiing Buttermilk during X Games

Will be in Aspen for a day of skiing on Sunday the last day of X games. All beginner level. Am I better off at Buttermilk or Snowmass? Are the beginner areas at Buttermilk open during the games or would it be too hectic there? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Also any advice where to get best deal for ski rentals? Thanks!

Buttermilk will be a zoo at the base but still skiable up top. Take Summit Express lift to the top and ski the nice greens and moderate blues to the right using the West Buttermilk Express lift. You'll be far from the crowds. However, Snowmass is an option too but has very limited number of true green runs. Funnel Bypass off of Elk Camp Gondola is really your best bet. A number of blues nearby that will be groomed but with short steeper areas. If truly a novice take a group lesson to be on safe side.

re: rentals go with 4 Mountain Sports at the base of Buttermilk and Snowmass OR take the Beginner Magic group lesson and get lift tix (only for dedicated area), rentals, and lesson to save.

Hope this helps. Enjoy.

There are green runs at Snowmass that are off the Village Express chairlift from the base in addition to a super beginner area at the top of the elk camp gondola "the Meadows" and Assay Hill. If you are looking for a little more challenge then Funnel from the Elk Camp Gondola is a good one or there are other green and blue runs from the top of the Village Express. If you have a car and want to ski buttermilk, I would skip the base of buttermilk entirely and head to west buttermilk. It has some great green runs and even a beginner terrain park.
