They are not the same. The west side is the beach, with white sand and the Gulf of Mexico. Breezes usually keep down the mosquitos and no see ums on the west side, but they can be fierce on the east side.

this must be in summer. We love swimming in the bay side, it is calm and clear and we swim five feet from our rental, As do many others ( late winter, early spring). I have never seen a mosquito or no see um there that time of year.

Winter and Spring are the dry season in Florida. Mossies like it wet, so about May to November, roughly hurricane season, the mossies are out.
