Alligator Point beaches/water

I see the posts from a few years ago regarding the poor quality of the water and beaches at Alligator Point. Can anyone provide more current feedback?

I may also be late responding here, but Kilroy from Tallahassee hits the nail on the head----the water is not polluted at Alligator Point, but it is murky with sediment from the Ochlocknee River flowing into the Ochlocknee Bay.

I haven't set foot in the water at Alligator Point in years but from past experience the water there is muddy and shallow---you can step into about six inches of water at the beach and the bottom will be muddy and sort of slimy.

As noted by others it is not the place to go to to set up your beach umbrella and expect to jump in and swim. You need to go to St. George Island for that about forty five minutes down the road---the water there is clearer---emerald---and deeper. That's the place for a classic Florida beach experience, not Alligator Point.

Having said that, Alligator Point is a good vacation spot if you bring a boat or if you want to fish in the Gulf, either on the shore or deep sea by renting a charter. Or if you just want to relax by looking out at the water.

Plus, if you go back north over the bay bridge you've got Angelo's restaurant there overlooking the water with its fresh seafood. And further up into Panacea itself you've got Posey's restaurant. Both restaurants are a vacationers' treat if you love fresh seafood.

And in addition to the proximity of St. George, you've got Wakulla Springs about an hour away on the way to Tallahassee---take a glass bottom boat ride and see if you can spot the Creature From the Black Lagoon---the movie was filmed there back in the '50s.

Hope this helps.
