sand flies, mosquitos

Are the bugs so bad in December that you can't even enjoy sitting in the sand or by the pool?? Interested in staying at Hamanasi. Thanks

Short answer, no. Mossies and sand flies can be irritating occasionally, but they are never a major issue. We have just had a few unusual days with quite a few mossies, but this is rare. They are gone now. Generally by the sea, you might get one or two. In the jungle, more of course. Just use deet.

Sandflies can be around night and morning especially after a brief shower. Avon Skin so Soft Bug Guard is the perfect deterent for these mighty midgets! Along with covering up.

December is the dry season when all insect activity tends to be a bit less.

If there is any kind of a breeze, then the sandflies and mozzies don't really bother you. Rarely are they so bad that you can't enjoy a rest on the beach or at the pool. Repellent is a good idea, just in case.

I have been at Hamanasi many times in December and never had a bite. I have noticed they do burn mosquito coils on the restaurant deck in the evening, so they must have mosquitoes, but I have never seen or felt one. Sand flies can be a problem on the beach, mainly in the early a.m. and just before sundown, but just put baby oil on exposed areas or use bug spray and you won't know they are there.
