It seems Belize doesn't want Indian citizens to visit and spend their tourism dollars in their country.

They appear to charge $250(!!) for a single entry visa.

A quick perusal of the Indian embassy website seems to indicate that citizens of Belize don't have to cough up nearly that amount for a visa to India.

I had already bought tickets to Belize for 2 weeks in Dec...but now I am going to cancel since we are still in the cancellation window!

I have no idea why Belize does this. I think the visa fees are even higher for some other Asian nations. Makes no sense at all.....

I guess we Indians should feel good...here's how they treat the Chinese

"For Nationals of the People’s Republic of China, Security and Immigration clearance is required. An application fee of $100.00 along with a visa fee of $2,000.00 applies. A repatriation of $4,000.00 also applies if the applicant is not a resident of the United States."

$6100 total for a visa??!!!

So...between India and China, they've told about a third of the world's population they aren't welcome...nice going Belize...no wonder Costa Rica makes a killing on tourists...

It's bizarre, we are a Commonwealth country. We can only shake our heads and wonder what is going on in the minds of our government - especially as our border to the south is as leaky as a sieve.

I am sorry that this situation has happened to you. Have you written to the government? I would hope that when someone wakes up and realizes how much money and good will Belize is losing, things will change. But not until they know how you feel. I hope you can come someday soon.

Thanks for the kinds comments. I'd have gone even @ $250, but since I'd go to Tikal, I realize I'd need a $500 multiple entry visa and another for my wife. $1000 visa fees was just too much..esp when Costa Rica charges close to $0.

Feel also bad for the very nice tourist guides/hotel/resort folks who we corresponded with and almost finalized things. They lost out on business for no fault of theirs... :-(

The reason for such high visa fees for both Indian and Chinese citizens is because they stay or use Belize as a transit point to enter the US and are high risk visitors. Its a shame for all the citizens of these countries who want to visit legally. They are being penalized for all those who disappear or overstay their visa.

regarding "high risk" -- most smart countries realize that if you hold a visa to the US, or are a permanent resident of the US (our situation), then using their country as a jump off point to enter the US illegally is not an issue (after all, you are a resident of the US)

So e.g. Mexico, Canada (two countries which would be the more logical choice for illegal immigration into the US), require NO visas for Indian citizens who are US permanent residents.

I think this is a really poor policy of the govt of Belize.
