March Retirement Trip

We are two couples, early 60's, going to Belize for 2 weeks in March. First week in San Ignacio & then moving to Caye Caulker. Already booked tours to Tikal & ATM, and are staying at Lower Dover. Second week going to Caye Caulker & staying at Caye Reef. How will the weather be and will bugs be a problem? Any suggestions for tours to take, or places to see out of San Ignacio or Caulker besides fishing, which we will be certain to book? Thanks to all who contribute to this great site. We base a lot on fellow travelers opinions!

The weather should be perfectly warm. It's usually 10 degrees cooler in Cayo than on the beach, so it'll be a little warmer on Caulker, but you'll have a good breeze, which should keep the mosquitoes away. Bugs shouldn't be a problem either. Some places have more than others, but I've yet to go anywhere where there were too many to enjoy what was going on.

Hol Chan Marine Reserve is a must if you like snorkeling. Mountain Pine Ridge is my favourite place in Belize. Rio Frio Cave, Rio On Pools, Big Rock Falls, and other attractions, are all located there.

Have a fun trip!

Check out the Barton creek cave trip, you go in on a canoe. Tubing on the Mopan river is a great relaxing time, plenty of bird and iguanas. Saturday market in San Ignacio is interesting as well. The butterfly farm at Chaa creek is good to see.

Cahal Peche and or Xunantunich are great day trips out of San Ignacio. Of course, a day trip with a guide to Tikal would make quite a lasting memory!

Make sure to find and eat lots of plantain chips from the carts in San Ignacio as well as the little place on the main street that sells fantastic watermelon juice and try to pick up some little pineapples from the fruit market. Oh no, don't get me started on all the delicious food!!
