Itinerary between mainland & island in April with two teens

I will be taking my two teenage daughters with me to Belize the first week of April for our first ever spring break trip. I chose it because it seems a little less touristy than Mexico and Costa Rica. We will be in Belize for 5-7 days.

We want a combination of beach days, a jungle tour, ruin tour and snorkeling or any other unique Belize adventure. I would like to split that between one island spot and one mainland spot. I have been reading some of the forum posts and do want to make sure to get a beach spot with beautiful water and good swimming.

My budget for the lodging is between 90 - 150 night and am fine with a

B&B, rental or hotel.

Any suggestions for two spots to use as a base and lodging suggestions?

Thank you so much. I will be hopping on the Minneapolis forum so I can return the travel favor!

One of the cayes, like Caulker or Ambergris, and somewhere in Cayo, like Bullet Tree or Mountain Pine Ridge(lots of great lodges on the way there). Belize isn't known for great beaches; Placencia has what many call the only 'real' beach, but you can snorkel a lot easier from the cayes since Placencia is 19 miles from the reef. The Hol Chan Marine Reserve tour is where you'll have a great time snorkeling.

Good luck!
