Hopkins as a base camp for snorkeling and inland excursions

I understand that one needs to go by boat for snorkeling, and I am trying to get a feel for how easy getting a boat repeatedly for a few hours is, near Hopkins. We have been spoiled in Maho at St. John, with fabulous swimming and snorkeling just out our door. I read the responses earlier this year about Hopkins, and I am very interested in staying at Tipple Tree so that we could snorkel, drive to Tikal, go to Jauguar preserve--we like to be very active hiking, swimming, snorkeling. Suggestions?

boat charters are $300 us however there is always trips going out for $us65 per person, it just depends on the time your in hopkins, most days between the months of november to february we got boats going out to the cayes, there is some rustic islands you could stay on, and you go snorkelling at your leisure!!!! going to tikal is easier accessible from the cayo district, to the west of hopkins, doing tikal from there will take you 2 1\2 hours just to the border of belize and guatemala, so its best you stay in guatemala an overnight to do tikal

Making Tipple Tree Beya at Hopkins your base camp gives you many options. You can come to Toledo on a day trip. For example to visit Blue Creek, just make arrangements with a tour operator first, for example www.tidetours.org. You can also visit a cacao farm and try your hand at making chocolate from scratch, www.ixcacaomayabelizeanchocolate.com. Also do a cultural home visits: Creole …facebook.com/pages/Maroon-Creole-Drum-School or Maya -www.facebook.com/TheLivingMayaExperience

Or if you are interested in learning Belizean traditional herbal remedies, you can visit Dr. Arzu - www.arzumountainspirit.com

This way you can enjoy all that is Belizean: sand/beach and adventure, culture and nature.

Google maps says that San Felipe Village in Toledo (where the chocolate making place is) is a two hours drive from Hopkins. Is that an accurate time estimate?

Hopkins to Tikal as a day trip doesn't work but if you can spend at least 1 night in the park at Tikal and are willing to spend a LOT of time on the road you could do it.
