Thank you SO MUCH to all of you for your guidance on our first trip to Belize. It was an amazing experience thanks to your guidance!!! Every piece of advice was spot on, and every moment of our trip was beyond our expectations. Although it is hard to list the highlights, here are our top 5 of the top 1000...
1 - The Belizean people. We have never been anywhere where the people are so universally kind and act as if they are old friends. Example - at the end of the trip, our DD asked a random worker at the airport where to return the phone. He didn't point her in the right direction - he stopped what he was doing and walked her allll the way out of the airport and across the parking into the store. When we arrived, the store was closed, but our shuttle driver had arranged that the gal who worked there meet us in the parking lot to give us the phones. UnBelizeable.
2 - The opportunities to see and touch animals. Within a week, we were up close and personal with crocodiles, iguanas, sting rays, sea turtles, moray eels, tarantulas, margays, howler monkeys... and that was not counting the animals we saw and touched in the zoo!
3 - The Savanna Guest House (located down the road a short bit from the Belize zoo). The opportunity to live with and see how world renowned wildlife photographers set up their sets, not to mention feed live crocodiles within 6 feet from inside the fence was amazing. (See our review for more details, but Savanna House was undoubtedly the best part of our trip).
4 - Visiting the iguana project with Burt as our guide - we have pictures of our daughter with 20 baby iguanas on her head, and me holding an iguana that was at least 25 pounds. (Note - this project is inside the San Ignacio Resort Hotel very near the Cahel Pech ruins in San Ignacio. The hotel is a very lovely and Americanized hotel - not our cup of tea for an international trip but the hamburgers were delicious!)
5 - Delicious food, especially Martha's Guesthouse (San Ignacio), KoAxHannah (San Ignacio) and Pasta Per Caso (Caye Caulker). My Dad taught me to ask locals where they would go for a birthday dinner, and are never steered wrong!
I will be writing individual reviews later, but wanted to thank everyone again for their great support and guidance. We love Belize!!!
