Weather And Other Stuff

We are arriving on Feb 10. I have been checking out Weather.com, and it looks like it's raining every day! Does the rain come in spurts, or does it rain all day? Lots of rain, or a little? Should we bring rain ponchos if we plan on touring ruins, etc? Is it best to buy some bottles of spirits at the airport in duty free? Is it worth it to travel north to the lagoon? What's the best way to get there? It looks too far for bikes. We're staying at Pelican Reef Villas. This forum has been SO helpful, especially you tacogirl! Thanks so much to everyone for all the useful info!

not sure what forecast you are looking at but it does look fairly decent.

It did rain all day yesterday. Today started out sunny, clouded up for a bit and poured for about 20 minutes. Now, it's mostly clear again. It doesn't usually rain much at all at this time of year. That said, weather this winter has been weird all over North America.

We were supposed to go to the mainland yesterday to tour the ruins at Lamani. The trip was cancelled because of the weather. On previous trips, we were given ponchos when it started to rain while we were at the ruins.

If you want any liquor besides rum, you'll save a bunch at the duty free that located right by baggage claim. Rum is cheap everywhere.

The lagoon isn't really north, it's on the west side of Ambergris. We enjoy visiting the north end of the island. Earlier this week, we took the water taxi from town up north about four miles and walked back, bar hopping along the way. Very fun day.

If I was staying at Pelican Reef, I'd be renting a golf cart.

Don't believe everything you see on weather.com they, like our government website does, provide a blanket forecast for the entire Country of Belize. That's pretty difficult as we have so many different topographies so the weather on the mainland can vary from region to region and vary from the Cayes etc. If you want to see up to the minute weather on Ambergris, check out the live weather cam at www.sanpedroweather.com

Pelican Reef is awesome, you will enjoy it. If you have not already done so, a golf cart rental is recommended. Yes, rain ponchos or jackets are always a good idea when traveling to the Tropics anytime. There's actually another "duty free" store where you collect your bags at Belize International before coming over to the island. If you are anything but a Rum drinker, definitely stock up.

I watched the weather for 6 weeks before we went to Belize last March. It indicated rain every day. It didn't rain once while we were there. Have fun.
