Bridge closure

Just a heads up to those staying north of the bridge after Easter... the mayor just stated on the Morning Show that the bridge will be completely closed for repairs for a week starting just after Easter.

isn't the week after Easter still pretty busy to close that bridge? Is the only route then water taxi?

Closing the bridge completely or closing one side for repairs and leaving the other side operating?

The mayor said 'completely closed'. ...and yes, the only way in to or out of town for those north of the bridge will be water taxi.

Will it definitely be the week after Easter.....April 1 to April 5th? We are staying up north and coming in on April 6th. Too close for comfort since we planned to ride bikes or cart into town several days.

There is now some talk that the bridge will be accessible to pedestrians, which means you will be able to cross with a bicycle. ...and whether it will reopen in a week is anyone's guess. This is Belize after all.

That bridge must be in very bad condition to warrant closing it to golf carts and cabs during high season...up north here we have spring breaks etc. that extend to the week after Christmas. I am guessing hotel/condo owners of properties north of the bridge will negotiate something to have the closing a bit later. I guess you could drive your vehicle up to the bridge and park somewhere and walk to town but still seems problematic. Since is seems dependent upon parts coming from UK who knows what will happen.

The bridge will be closed for vehicles as of tomorrow 15th of May for an estimated one to two weeks. Apparently pedestrians will have access to cross.
