Tripadvisor offers many different areas when you enter Belize/ hotels. What area do I want to stay in for nice beaches and pools . Thank you
I'd say either Ambergris Caye or Placencia. Each has its fans, my personal favorite is Ambergris. More hotel choices, more restaurants, closer to the reef.
We just returned from AMbergris Caye with our 14 and 10 year old and enjoyed our stay. Nice beaches, but not like in Hawaii or Southern California, as there is lots of sea grass and no waves to speak of. But water is clear and there are some areas of white sandy bottom that you can play in. Kayaking is fairly common from most resorts and some people will even use them to go out to the reef (20-25 minutes of paddling), then tie up to a buoy and do some snorkeling is fairly shallow water (less than 20 feet deep). San Pedro town was good for tourist shopping, locals selling lots of jewelry and wood carvings and also for restaurants ( a bit on the expensive side) and of course, the "world famous" Chicken Drop event on Wednesday evening. You can read about that in any Belize book. Snorkeling is really only good on a boat tour of the reef (about $45-55 per person), give or take, for a 3-4 hour excursion. Diving is good, pools are o.k., our room was great, a 1 bedroom at Capt. Morgans. Full kitchen, great deck, nice furniture, great local artwork in the room, Jacuzzi tub and even 1 of 3 rooms with a spa on the deck overlooking the sea. We were on the timeshare exchange side, versus the hotel side of the resort. The timeshare vacation club side has access to two pools where as the hotel side has the 1 main pool. Let me know if you want more information.
