A half day snorkeling cost $500 (US dollars) for three people. A eight hour tour to the Mayan ruins of Xunantunich for four was $600 and lunch, tip and entrance to the park was included. Our tours were made through the hotel. They could perhaps be cheaper if booked another way.

BTW, our tour guides for both were phenominal!

Those prices are very high, especially the snorkelling, go into Placencia village, stop at any one of a number of good tour shops which you will find along the harbour and the sidewalk, and enjoy a wonderful trip for a good price. all tour guides in Belize have to be government licensed, and they are of a very high standard as a rule. Avadon Dive shop will do snorkelling for around US$80 per person, and they were the Tour Guides of the Year last year. Monkey River should be around US$50 per person depending on how many people on the tour. The maximum number of people per tour guide is 8 by law.

You might want to stay closer to the village so you can take advantage of direct booking by tour guides who have shops in the village. The Placencia Hotel is about 10 - 12 miles north of the Village.

Check out www.placencia.com and that site will show options in the village, which are listed south of airport. The airport is two miles north of the village. When you contact a hotel/resort that you are interested in ask them specifically how far they are from Placencia Village. NOTE: All will say they are in Placencia, but that means they are on the Peninsula, which is about 16 miles long. Ask for Placencia Village location.

Hope this helps.

The Blue Hole will be quite a distance and weather dependent. It's one of those tours you shouldn't book in advance but rather the day before so you can judge weather conditions (rain, wind, etc.) You should plan on a full day and it will be the most expensive activity out of your current list. Most people that visit are interested in diving. If you're not a diver it might not hold the same allure since the definition of the blue hole isn't as visible looking off the side of a boat. The best way to view the Blue Hole (if you don't dive) is from above by helicopter. But Astrum is the only company in Belize and they only do private charters. They do have a helipad at Placencia Hotel. So if you meet people at the property who are interested maybe you would out a group charter to help save on costs. Or check with the concierge in case others have expressed interest.

Hope this helps!

Did you mean the Blue Hole off shore or the Blue Hole in the National Park, on Hummingbird Highway. If the later, it is lovely, but I am not sure it is worth a whole day trip. We stopped on the way from Cayo to Placencia and had a swim for about an hour, then moved on.
