SJO-Turrialba-Pacuare-Tortuguero-SJO

Any ideas on this itinerary?

Day 1: Arrive SJO 1:30 PM. Transfer to Turrialba and do ??? during day. I'm choosing this location to be closer to rafting Pacuare and avoid San Jose altogether. Any ideas on hotel and activities or stops on the way to Turrialba?

Day 2: Raft Pacuare. Exit river at Siquerres (I think?) Is it possible to transfer to Tortuguero that same day, or need to stay near Siquerres?

Day 3: Explore Tortuguero. Not sure where to stay.

Day 4 Explore Tortuguero. Not sure where to stay.

Day 5: Return to SJO.

Most of the rafting trips and Tortuguero trips are packages going from San Jose, which I would prefer to avoid. Does anyone recommend either a rafting outfit or hotel/tour outfit in Tortuguero that could accommodate this more flexible itinerary? Packages look cheaper than booking Tortuguero hotel separately. I generally prefer not to spend over $100 to $150 per night on lodging, if that gives an idea of level of luxury I prefer.

Thanks!

Will you have your own car?

If so, you can drive to Rios Tropicales's operations center near Siquirres from the Sarapiqui area (about 75-90 minutes from Selva Verde lodge) or from Tortuguero. You also save money that way--if you don't need their transport from San Jose.

Was thinking of renting a car, but not sure where to leave it while in Tortuguero. Thanks!

Rios Tropicales runs a Tortuguero package as well as Pacuare package:

Very possibly if you talked to them about doing both, they would go out of their way to arrange transport. I don't know if the overall price for the Tortuguero stuff is out of your price range though.

Rios Tropicales is a great tour Company, also Exploradores Ourdoors, https://www.exploradoresoutdoors.com/has rafting and Tortuguero tours all Inc. from San Jose. If you have time maybe a few days in Puerto Viejo de Talamanca for some R & R.
