Stopover between Guanacaste and Cahuita?

I'd like to pick some brains about where to stop over between say Playa Coca or Samara (we haven't decided yet) and Cahuita. We have a rental car. This is our second trip, and on the first we went to Arenal when the volcano was very active, so not really interested in going back now that its quiet, altho it seems to be best situated for a stopover.

I really want to go to Tortuguero and figured leaving from Moin while in Cahuita. But would it be possible to stop somewhere and catch a boat to Tortuguero, and resume the journey on the return? I'm open to all suggestions about stopovers.

Thanks

Hope you've got 2 weeks for this trip as you're going to spend a lot of it driving. the shortest route from Samara to Cahuita is thru San Jose but it's not the most scenic. The scenic route is around Lake Arenal, thru La Fortuna, on to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, then Siquerres and past Limon to reach Cahuita. You can leave your car in a secure lot at the docks in Moin, before heading north to Tortuguero.

You can park your car in Moin...take the boat to Tortuguero and then back to Moin and keep going to the beaches...

From Samara to San Jose...about 4 hours...from San Jose to Moin about 4 hours...nice road all the way!

Agreed with crfan...

Thank you-your replies were helpful and we are changing our route in response. We will first go to Puerto Viejo, and go to Tortuguero on the way back north. Is the parking in Moin secure enough to leave our baggage while overnight in Tortuguero?

We do have 14 days, which is why we thought about spliting our time between the driest (a relative term) regions. We did the scenic drive referred to in our previous trip, with a stopover in a jungle lodge, and highly recommend it.

I would not leave baggage in your car overnite even though it is a fenced in lot at Moin.
