Any Active Volcanoes at this time? website??

any active volcanoes, with lava or smoke today?

websites say 5 volcanoes are currently "active",

is there a website stating daily activity and what "active" means?

Turrialba has been spewing out a steady stream of thick smoke for some time, and the last couple of afternoons it can be seen from as far away as the Orosi valley. You can also see the peak of Irazu but it is quiet. On a clear afternoon like today you ould drive up to Irazu and see the crater and have a view of the plume from Turrialba on the way up.

By the way as of last week there is apparently a new crater at Poez.

I was at Poaz in September, it is a lot more active with a large constant plume of steam/smoke than it had been the year before.

Arenal has been less active in the last year, no lava and little smoke.

Turrialba has been very active with smoke in the last year. The park is operated by a private concession I believe, entry fees are higher and numbers of visitors are limited.

Irazu is worthy of a visit but is not very active.

For ease of access, cost and experience I would recommend Poaz.

If you are hungry on the way back down from Poaz, Chubasco's Restaurant will be on your right, and is a treat, beautiful grounds and delicious desserts.
