Bad Experience with LatinExplore

I'm currently trying to arrange travel to Costa Rica, but had a bad experience with the incompetency of LatinExplore. I overlooked multiple mistakes (wrong number of travelers, routing me through Russia (!), twice wrong airport codes, etc) and tried my best to make arrangements for Costa Rica with this company, but it is unbearable.

My dates are flexible so that should make it a lot easier.

Does anyone have a competent travel resource to recommend?

Reading a lot of bad reviews today... Sorry to hear your troubles. Several companies I like and recommended on the forum, here is my list.

Horizontes – http://www.horizontes.com/eng/ - Very green company, offers packages, involved with community programs, good company & good folks

Crreferals – http://www.crreferrals.com/ - Good for custom planning, has packages, involved with animal rescue, good company & good folks

Actuar - www.actuarcostarica.com/app/cms/www/index.php Off the beaten path rural tourism, involved with community programs, good company, good folks.

Caravan – http://www.caravan.com/ - Best for larger group tours up to 30. Excellent reputation and well respected. Awesome at what they do.

Costa Rica Expeditions – www.costaricaexpeditions.com/wl3/index.php - High end trip planner, owns some of there own lodges, has won many awards, great reviews in the forum.

Other companies recommended - tripadvisor.com/Travel-g291982-c117989/Costa…

Good Luck

Thanks rwebber!

It's good to know and I'm glad you let us know... The response from the company (post #2) does not deny what they did... It's not that they made a mistake, it's that they don't have the courtesy to admit it and attempt to correct it ( that would be what I look for)

A company that quickly notices mistakes and are happy to correct them without making excuses.

Thanks again,

Yesi

If you are looking for expert advice on an agency to arrange your travel in Costa Rica - then go with one of the agencies listed in Incabod's post. These are agencies that are located in Costa Rica (rather than in Denver or London or Toronto) and know about the country, come highly recommended and have good reviews.

I mean, you came to this forum looking for expert advice, right?

CRReferral is a great organization and I would add Gecko Trails and Xplore Costa Rica to the list.

I have to agree it is starting to smell funny on this thread...

IMO you are better off going with agencies located where ever it is you are going. If I am headed to Greece, I want an agency in Greece, not New York City or anywhere else.

Nobody can know a country better than living and being in said country, simple as that. Things happen and change all the time and local agents will have the skinny on what's happening on the ground. They normally will have good ties with companies, connections throughout the local travel community, and will always be IMO the best bet for planning wherever you are going. It's just a common sense thing.

I am not in any way saying that there are not great agencies the world over, but my common sense will always push me to using whats local to the country I am visiting.

my 2 cents

Cheers

Many good companies base in Costa Rica...and most of the time is better to dealt with a compnay based in our country...and of course Proffesional Travel Agents..

If a costarican is living in USA that does not make him or her a Costa Rica expert and a Proffesional Travel Agent..!!!

A person like Hattie knows our country even better than many costaricans...she can give advice even better than many so call Travel Agents...

Thank you for let all of us know about the bad expereince with Latin Explore...
