Dominical or Montezuma

I am travelling to CR next X mas break with 3 couples all around 30 years old. After hitting Arenal for 3 nights, then Jaco for New Years, we are looking for a nice beach town to relax for our last 4 nights. What is better for our group Montezuma or Dominical. We would like a place with lots of outdoor activites, on the beach, and nightlife activities. We are not looking for crazy party times, just some decent bars to have a few at night. Please help!

For what you are seeking you really cannot go wrong with either destination. The main consideration I can think to add would be that Montezuma is more of a swimmer friendly beach than Dominical.

As explorinCa said both will work for you.

Dominical is a surfing beach so not too swimer friendly though life guards are on duty. Dominical is easier and quicker to get to from Jaco than Montezuma. Few surfer bars around for night life, but nothing like Jaco.

In Dominical you can have a look at this article for tours, though its for Uvita its just down the road as far as tour operators covers the whole area: tripadvisor.com/Travel-g635755-s4/Uvita:Cost…

Montezuma is EASY to get to from Jaco. A taxi boat goes once or twice a day from the next town north straight across the bay/gulf to Montzuma. All the tourist places in Jaco can get you a ticket. I recommend getting your ticket from Montezuma expeditions, the last time I went they actually provided me a ride to the next town north, other times I went, I had to cab it (maybe all the companies do this now, but at the time, it seemed unique to them, April 2009).

I just looked and didn't see it on their site, maybe the boat was someone they booked me onto but they did provide the transportation. At least I'm pretty sure it was them http://montezumaexpeditions.com/ it's possible it was someone else, but I started using them a lot around that time.

Just ask about transport at any of the places in Jaco before you buy. And with six of you, be sure to book in advance and you can probably talk them in to driving you and maybe a discount (they don't haggle much in Costa Rica but six customers that might go to another tour place is a lot of money). They can book you a shuttle all the way back to the airport too.

If you've got your own transport, it's a bit of a ride to get there. 5 hours? Maybe a little more, but it's an awesome ferry ride to get to across. And it's relatively had to get lost down there in that area (there aren't that many roads!).

I've got some info here, more info at the bottom http://GarySaid.com/?s=ferry+paquera

If it wasn't clear, my choice is Montezuma. My favorite place on the planet, actually.

Here's a few links of mine specifically about Montezuma.

I blogged about lots of my trips at my blog http://GarySaid.com/tags/montezuma/ you can search there for "Costa Rica" too.

I even created a photo site, just for that area of Costa Rica http://MontezumaPacific.com/

A few dozen of my videos at YouTube of Montezuma www.youtube.com/user/garylapointe/videos…

And some cool 720(?) degree 3D-ish PhotoSynths at photosynth.net/userprofilepage.aspx…

but I don't know how to restrict to just Montezuma (but I'd guess half are from Costa Rica).

Hope you like these. I hope these links aren't considered too "spammy". If so, please just delete and let me know. But I'm SO passionate about Montezuma, I've been there 12 (maybe 15) times, I've got all these photos and videos and photo synths.

PS - Don't assume any hotels have air conditioning, TV or hot water (usually, just the shower).
