Looking For "Self-Guided" Type Tour

My partner & I are not the type who enjoy multi-person guided tours on buses and are looking for some sort of "tour" where an agent drops off a vehicle for our use with suggested itineraries but leaves us to travel on our own...Does anybody know of a company that will do this?

Any travel agency here can help you. Depending on the time of the year you come you might also need to have your hotels pre-booked. Here is a list of agencies tripadvisor.com/Travel-g291982-c117989/Costa…

There are some good companies on that link. Check for certifications such as ICT, Canatur and BBB. When you find a few companies you like, look into reviews here on TA and a quick Google search should pull up results as well.

You can organise your own independent tour using the great tools at TripAdvisor and forum. There is no need in using an agency. There are a wide choice of rent a car agencies (make sure you get mantadory insurance inclded in your quote) and once you narow down the areas you would like to visit have a look at reviews for hotels in the area.

If you decide on an agency ICT is the Costa Rican Ministry of Tourism they have a wide list of approved Travel Agents, some state this is not necessary but with such a large list its a good starting point: visitcostarica.com/ict/paginas/categoria.asp…

There is an article here with a list: tripadvisor.com/Travel-g291982-c117989/Costa… however as you will note from the article history most entries were done by Travel Agents themselves, nothing wrong with that. Just search info on TA, ICT is good, Canatur is a privatemarketing association that will accept membership from any tourism business in CR on payment of their small fee, no background checks. But again its a good source.

If you get a PM recomending a Travel Agency be cautious as there is a reason it is not being recomended on an open forum. Some time Travel Agents can inpersonate travelers and there have been reports of this, so of course use your judgement.

Costa Rica is a great country to visit independently and "self-guided" enjoy!
