Driving from San Jose to Tamarindo

We plan on flying into San Jose, rent a car and drive to Tamarindo than fly home from Liberia. We have 7 – 10 days and would like to go to a skate park in San Jose, see the volcano, visit the rain forest and hot spring. We need suggestions as to where to go, what to see and the best car rental company. Any help and suggestions are welcome. We plan on doing this either next month or in July, thank you.

Maybe a couple of nights in San Jose for the skate park check at Arenas Skate and Surf http://www.arenascr.com/ then on to the Arenal Volcano area for 3 nts (In Arenal you can enjoy boat tours to caño Negro, rafting, ziplines, nature hikes, floating tours, horseback riding, waterfalls) and then on to Tamarindo. Car rental agencies adobe, alamo.

Mike has a good suggestion about stopping in Arenal. It is gorgeous. If you want more days in the surf, though, you can always check out Rincon de La Vieja while you are here in Tamarindo, its about 1.5-2 hours away from here (about 45min from Liberia) and has volcanos, hot springs, a lush forest, pretty much everything and you can do it all during a day trip!
