on beach and not far from san jose for girl flying solo ??

Greetings fellow travellers. Just looking for a bit of advice. Anybody have any ideas as to the best place to stay for a girl mid 30's (travelling alone) looking for nice beach/spa resort (maybe all inclusive). I'm joining an adventure tour from San Jose but would just love a few days to chill out first on the beach in a nice hotel, with good food, that's easy to reach from the capital.

Many thanks.

San Jose is in the middle of the country so there are no beaches nearby. If you fly into Liberia instead of San Jose you can be on the beach in an hour, then fly down to San Jose on a prop plane to meet up with your adventure tour. Check out Westin Playa Conchal for a deluxe AI.

If you've already bought plane tickets into San Jose, there are no AIs anywhere close on good beaches. You should take a look at Los Suenos Marriott north of Jaco and 1.5 hours from SJO but it's not on a good beach, or Manuel Antonio, 3 hours from SJO. There are puddle jumper flights on SANSA which will get your from SJO to Quepos, the airport forManuel Antonio, in 20 minutes. Then it's a 20 minute drive to the beach. Take a look at Arenas del Mar beachfront or La Mariposa or Issimo Suites in the hills nearby overlooking the coast. No AIs in this area. Many more less expensive options as well. let us know your budget.

Also many more beach options are available if you fly SANSA to/from SJO and the beach. Just let us know if that is an option for you and what time your flight arrives.

Close to san jose (one and ahalf hour drive) you will find jaco beach. Check club del mar, best western jaco beach

Jaco beach would be the closest beach to San Jose, however the beach is not so nice. The Best Western Jaco Beach mentioned above by Franciscojh will become an all inclusive property very soon.

About 41/2 hours from SJO, Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side, a little more than a short drive, but wonderful area to visit.

In Nov the weather will be better on the Caribbean side...since it is rainy season. I traveled to that area solo and felt safe during daylight hours, took taxis at night. Ck Banana Azul website. Not sure if there are any AIs but plenty of good restaurants, nice beaches and snorkeling. Wildlife Preserve, Jungle Spa....lots to see or just chill! I used Interbus transit from San Jose
