Manuel Antonio, Puerto Viejo and Arenal in 6 nights???

Hi, everybody!

Me and my girl are going to spend 6 nights in Costa Rica in December and we're not sure if this itinerary is well. What do you think?

December 23: Arrival 8am in SJO. Get a bus to Puerto Viejo.

December 24: Puerto Viejo.

December 25: Rafting and van to La Fortuna.

December 26: La Fortuna (Arenal)

December 27: Plane to Quepos and then shuttle to Manuel Antonio.

December 28: Manuel Antonio.

December 29: Plane from Quepos to San Jose.

If it is better to cut off one of this destinations, which one would you choose? I need to say that after Costa Rica we will continue to Belize and Mexico, so a lot of Caribean ahead. Also, we are brazilians and here we also have beaches (Atlantic) and forests, but no volcanoes, Pacific or Caribean.

One more question: anything we should know about christmas in Costa Rica related to public transportations etc?

Thank you all very much!

Around Xmas everything is about normal...no problems with buses...just be aware that from Dec..25 up...a lot of people moving aound the country in public buses!

You are doing a lot of moving but doable...since you are taking one flight that will make your visit a lot better,,,and nice for a 7 days stay...

This itinerary is nuts. You're spending half the trip travelling from place to place. You're much better off picking 1 beach or the other and then you'll have a lot more time to enjoy yourself.

Alternatively you could skip the beach altogether and head from SJO to Arenal before heading to Sarapiqui to hike in the rainforest. Then end the trip with whitewater rafting on the Pacuare followed by a last nite in San Jose. If you have time the last day before your flight you can drive to the top of Poas volcano to see the craterblake and incredible views before heading back down for the 1-hour drive to the airport.

I agree, too much traveling for a short trip - choose one beach destination or the other, but not both. Each one has a variety of activities to keep you busy for several days and La Fortuna has many different tour options also.

Manuel Antonio and La Fortuna are the most visited areas in the country, while Puerto Viejo has more of a Caribbean vibe with fewer tourists.

Im with Crfan on this all the way, in a word nuts. You are really spreading yourself thin trying to do a trip like that. 6 nights is 2 places max IMO. More than that and you will be more than a bit rushed.
