Are travel guides necessary in Costa Rica?

Hi Travellers!

My husband and me plan to visit Costa Rica (our first time!) between December 20-25, 2012, spending about three days at Arenal and two days at Manual Antonio. We enjoy lots of hiking, and were wondering if it would be better idea to have day-tour guides.

Would like to take some opinion from others who have travelled here before! If you do recommend tour-guides, do they need to be booked much in advance.., and do you have any suggestions for specific guides?

Thank you very much!

Best,

AK

When you are in MA get a guide when you visit the park. Are you doing any tours in Arenal? Are you getting a private driver? The tours for zip or canyon, etc, often add other info on the tours. Private drivers who speak english are also great sources of info.

Thanks a lot. We are planning on renting a car and drive from San Jose to Arenal and Manual Antonio. Within Arenal and Manual Antonio we plan to rely on local tour guides. Any good websites out there for booking ziplining or walking tours before arriving there.

thanks,

In general, you should be able to book any tours at your hotel. You shouldn't need to book any day trips in advance
