2 Weeks Vacay - Getting from point A to B (and where to go)

We are travelling to Costa Rica for 2 weeks July 13-27. Family of 4, 2 adults 2 kids (8 & 11 - very active, wakeboard, skimboard, snorkel) We are planning on flying into San Jose as it seems more inland. Our whole idea was to do 1 week inland activities and 1 week beach direction. We have already book the Tree House Hotel for 4 nights but from there we don't have much exact direction. We would rather the cheaper b&b's with breakfast included or the eco hotels that are around $45-50 a night. Really we just need clean beds and water to shower. We would rather spend the money on doing things since we aren't planning on being in a room since Costa Rica has soo much to offer. For the time after the Tree House Hotel we would love to be near a beach or within walking distance, we would love a open air market that we could wander down to, etc. In our eyes less is more. I wasn't too sure if we are being to ambtious within 2 weeks since Santa Clara is far from Drake Bay?? Also how would we get from point a to point b???? What is the most cost effective transportion but not in a car for days on end????

Thanks for any help

Our idea is to do 4 nights (jul 13-16) @ Tree House Hotel in Santa Clara to do whitewater rafting, volcano tour, waterfall reppeling, etc.

(Jul 16-20) Unsure where to go?????

Then we were thinking of doing a really nice eco b&b located in Drake Bay. (jul 21-27) Ie. Vista Drake Lodge

You will need to rent a car. A room with breakfast for two for 50US$ can be found but you will need to search a lot. The Caribbean coast is less expensive the Pacific. After Santa Clara drive to Sarapiqui (check Posada Andrea Cristina) for 2-3 days, visit Tortuguero for 2 days end with beach time in Puerto Viejo.

Drake Bay, as long as it is a beautiful place, is far away, a lot of driving (2 days each way) or take a plane, and lodges there are mostly full board thus more expensive. Not much of water activities apart of snorkeling near Cano Island. But best wildlife in Corcovado NP. For swimming and to cut the driving short look at Manuel Antonio,

Tree House hotel is fantastic and the staff is great...you'll love it there. :-) Since you're planning on heading down to Drake Bay, I'd say for July 16-20 you head to Quepos/Manuel Antonio area. From there you can fly down to Drake Bay (don't drive). If you're an animal & nature lover...make sure to go to Drake Bay no matter what...it's one of the best places for seeing nature in CR! Enjoy!

I am not clear on the beach part, where is it? Drake Bay is best for accessing Corcovado, there is no beaches to speak of.

Its also a long drive from San Ramon to DB/Osa.

What about surf lessons for the kids?

Maybe go to Manual Antonio a night, then to Uvita a few nights, or Dominical area, then head to Osa. What ever you do, you need to break up the to from drive to DB-Osa, as its 10 hours back to SJ, that all two lane, no way, need 2 days IMO.

July will be rainy season afternoon showers are the norm, heavy at times, no fun driving in it...

Go to Uvita, access DB from there...you dont have time for north and south and beach...
