Which part of costa Rico is the most touristy?

We want to stay where most tourist attractions are and of course where other tourists are. We like being within walking distance of at least some restaurants and maybe other things

we do like to be near the beach too

I notice the countries are listed in 'regions". So please list what regions would be something I would probably be interested in considering the above. I have considered guancaste so far.

Thanks. I'm just lost on where to stay!!!

If you're looking for a combination of touristy and beach, I would recommend Manuel Antonio. There are lots of good restaurants and some shopping and wonderful beaches. It is a very "user-friendly" place for a first trip to Costa Rica.

Tamarindo is about as touristy as it gets. Not all of us consider that to be a good thing. But others do. To each their own.

My vote goes to Manuel Antonio (but have not been to Tamarindo). MA is made for tourists but at least it is quite small area, and hotels are not enormous big.

I'd vote for Manuel Antonio as well. We were able to walk to several restaurants from our hotel; you just have to be careful along the road. Most restaurants and hotels have nice views. The beach inside the park is beautiful, and there's fairly easy access to pretty tame wildlife.
