sarapiqui accomadations with pool

We are planning a trip to the Sarapiqui area in Dec for 4 or 5 days. Can anyone recommend a place to stay with a pool? Any experience with Selva Verde, which we have been considering?

Yes, we've stayed at Selva Verde and really liked it. The rooms are simple, but comfortable. They have a lot of wildlife on the property. We did several hikes and saw howlers and toucans, as well as tons of poison dart frogs. They have a great open air restaurant right on the river that serves good food for dinner; they also have a buffet option, but that wasn't as good as the made to order spot. They do have a pool, but we never had a chance to use it while we were there. There is a reserve across the bridge, and if you want to hike in that area you're required to get a guide. La Selva isn't too far away and is nice for a day trip for hiking and more wildlife spotting.

Totally agree with Volcanogirl - love Selva Verde and always try to stay there when in Sarapiqui. Plenty of wildlife on the grounds, easy access to other spots such as hiking at La Selva, chocolate tour at La Tirimbina, rafting, etc.

I always ask for a room by the river as the noise from the highway is louder in the cabins closer to the front of the property.

If you enjoy tropical birds, a fairly new attraction has opened up next to La Tirimbina called Nature Pavilion and is a dream spot for nature photographers. www.costaricanp.com

We stayed at the Sarapiqui Rain Forest Lodge and they had a pool. They are right next to the Tirimbina reserve.

I agree with hummingbird; we stayed in a room in the 40 block back by the river, and it was really nice. We could hear the river from our room. I wish I had known about Nature Pavilion when we went; we would have really enjoyed that.

If you go with SV, don't miss their homemade pizza - very nice with a cold Imperial.
