I imagine he won't get to see much outside of San Jose. Too bad!

Yes, that is too bad. He is here for a conference and will make no public appearances. The San Jose area has been like an anthill of activity with the various security measures.

At least, he will get to see some of the country when flying in and out!

Oh noooo! I live on Long Island and know from experience that driving in manhattan when he is in town is miserable. If I have a 6:48pm flight out of San Jose on a Sunday, how much earlier should I get there with him in town? I will be coming from MA... should I leave extra early?

As others have written: Spend your last night somewhere near the airport. Don't take that 3 am drive to the airport -- head for Alajuela in the afternoon and just relax.

Thanks Hattie... it's actually a 6:48PM or 18:48 flight.

Oops! Sorry about that!

He will be here the 3rd and 4th of May. Not exactly sure when he's leaving - they probably don't publish that information.

As roadadvisor said - check with the airline to make sure there are not delays. From what I've been reading, they don't intend to close the airport.

It is worrisome, however, that there may be traffic delays in getting to the airport.

Yes security will be tigh...and let me tell you they can care less...if you miss the flight...better to be around the terminal at walking distance if necessary...

I have to agree with roadadvisor.

If it were me -- I would head to Alajuela the night before. There are some interesting things to do there for your last day and you can assess the situation first-hand and know what to do about getting to the airport on time.

La Nacion, the most prominent newspaper in Costa Rica, is providing coverage of Obama's visit in English. You might check here: nacion.com/Generales/…ObamainCostaRica.aspx to keep up with what's going on and perhaps how it would affect your plans.

Oh no! One of their articles says all cargo and private flights May 3-5 are cancelled and some commercial flights may be affected. Crossing my fingers that our May 5th flight isn't affected. At least it's our departing flight... we will have already enjoyed a wonderful vaca :)
