Yes the price is the same throughout Costa Rica. Also all gas stations are full service. The attendant might also check your oil, tire pressure and wash your window. (Tip not necessary but always appreciated.)

It's around $6 a gallon. It is actually measured in "colones per liter" so some math involved.

So the "actual" price is: 767 colones per liter for super and 721 colones per liter for regular.

Right now the exchange rate is hovering around 493 colones to the dollar.

We're paying in Toronto 1.25-1.30 a litre for regular which basically would be inline with CR prices.

Along the same lines- is diesel common, or difficult to find?

Diesel is here. As a matter of fact, your used car is worth a lot more if it has a diesel engine.

There was an article in the paper here recently that concluded that over $0.50+ per gallon cost of gasoline goes directly to employee compensation for RECOPE, the nationalized refinery monopoly. A number that astronomically high is unheard of worldwide and cannot seem to be explained by any rational means.

At least in Canada, you know the $6 will go to fix the roads.

Diesel is common and easy to find. It's somewhat cheaper than gasoline.
