Going to Costa Rica late Dec to early Jan

Where should we stay? Our budget is 4-5k and for 6 nights. We are traveling from California. We are a young couple who wants to relax with good weather and nice beaches. We would like to do some sight seeing as well. Thanks guys.

With your budget, even if air flight is included, you can stay almost anywhere in Costa Rica. However, if nice beaches are what you prefer, then you are more limited. Costa Rica is not known for its sandy beaches but rather for its nature and wildlife. For helping you better you should tell us will you fly into Liberia or San Jose.

Thanks for the replies. I really don't know where to stay in Costa Rica. We basically want to stay in a nice, warm place. The beach doesn't have to be spectacular. Just a place with a good mix of people and things to do. Just want good weather and place to relax and maybe do a couple excursions.

You really do not need any middle person or company to book anything in Costa Rica...deal direct with hotels or travel providers...

Based on your info...check...Tamarindo...Flamingo...Potrero...Conchal...Playa Grande for this beaches better to fly in and out of LIR...also a nice visit maybe one night at Rincon de la Vieja Volcano...check Hotel Hacienda Guachipelin...great place ...nice soft adventure tours...and only 45 minutes from LIR and about 1.5 hours to Tamarindo!

Playa Tamarindo is a great place to be, you got a lot of beautiful beaches around to enjoy, and the nightlife also is really good.

You also can do a lot of tours to other places near to Playa Tamarindo, that way you can know a lot of different locations...beaches, forests, rivers, volcanoes, mountains, etc.

Hello again. Thanks for the info. We have decided that we would like to do all inclusive. Any recommendations? Honestly we are overwhelmed with so many options. What area would you say is a sure bet for people who haven't traveled a whole lot...3 to 4 vacations so far...Maui, Cancun and Cabo.

Don't know why you would want to do an All Inclusive in Costa Rica .... there are so many nice hotels. But if that is what you want, check out the Westin Playa Conchal, that is the best but might be out of your price range. Others are Barceló Playa Langosta, Occidental Grand Papagayo....do a google search for more. Your biggest problem is that you are not only coming in Peak Season, but that is one of the Peak Weeks! So better get something decided now or they may all be sold out! Good luck!

I also would not opt for an all inclusive. Staying in any of the beach areas gives you access to fun beach bars and restaurants and if you want to do some of the popular excursions you won't be at the hotel to eat/drink free anyway. I think you will find meals reasonably priced. Unless you just want to relax around the hotel pool, then AI makes sense I guess. Don't be overwhelmed. Ck Tamarindo, Ck Manuel Antonio/Quepos, Dominical etc. Google searches will turn up endless photos. Tons of lodging choices and also tours. Maybe if you decide what excursions appeal to you more destinations can be recommended. ie zip lines, fishing, canyoning, rafting, jungle hikes, horseback to waterfalls, birdwatching etc. The great news is you probably can't make a decision that would result in a bad trip! Don't expect the crowds of Cancun or the huge resorts.

Fly in and out of LIR. Take a cab to Hermosa. Stay at Playa Hermosa Hotel Bosque del Mar. It's quiet and romantic and new. They have a meal plan. About 50 yds back is another nice hotel villa del sueno that has great food. Tours will pick you up at the hotel.
