We're coming in a month with the family (husband,3 y, in laws). We landat 11:30 am and I have us booked at Poas Lodge the first night with plans to go to La Paz in the morning and then drive to Puerto Viejo later that day.
Now I'm having second thoughts mostly for the 2 reasons below:
1) I didn't realize how much in the opposite direction Poas was from the road to PV
2) my in laws want to go to Veragua rainforest (is that an ok idea? I can't tell if it's a giant tourist trap and over run with cruise ship folks) and I don't want to be redundant if it's similar enough to La Paz
Someone on another thread mentioned Turrialba, which is a town dear to my heart since I spent my first week of my first visit to CR there 7 or 8 years ago. So now I'm thinking maybe we should skip La Paz and instead go to Turrialba the first day and hang out there and be halfway to PV and then just do Veragua one day.
Another option (instead or in addition to visiting it beforehand) is to go to Turrialba our last day/night before we leave and that way we'd be partway back to Alajuela to catch our flight at 12:30 the next day (have to drop the car off first). Right now as planned we were just going to stay in Alajuela the night before and the car rental company was going to pick the car up from us.
I appreciate any advice on thinking this through.
