Appropriate amount to tip a bird guide

I've hired a local bird watcher to spend 8 days bird watching with him for a fee. I'm assuming that even though this is his business and I'm paying a fee, a tip is also appropriate. Can someone give me an idea of an appropriate amount to tip? Thank you.

8 days is a lot of time, meaning potentially a big tip. My inclination would to set the baseline at $100 and go up or down from there, depending on quality and what else he does (is he driving you?) etc.

I would say about $20 per guided hike. I normally tip about that for an awesome tour. Not all guides are created equal so it depends on the level of service IMO.
