Car Rentals

We are visiting CR soon and trying to figure out our transportation situation.

We are arriving in San Jose, travelling to Mal Pais, then to Fortuna, and back to San Jose.

I have received a few quotes from our accommodations in San Jose.

I've never booked a car before (and have maybe read too many bad forum posts) but any thoughts on these companies: U-Save, Mapache, or Vamos?

Vamos has the most consistent record; also some great reviews lately. If using costa Rica Discount card+ you can save quite a bit.

I used Hertz many times, specially in Liberia,

Good Service, good cars, no complaints.

I just came back from a CR trip and use them as well.

No problems at all.

Just quote directly to their CR website https://www.hertzcostarica.com/

Enjoy your ride and don't forget about to report your trip to TA!!!

Forget about any card….deal direct with rent a cars…avoid middle people…try to del with well know companies…as Adobe…Hertz..Avis…Budget..National…Toyota…avoid ECONOMY….

Small rent a casr will offer free GPS…Free coolers ??? etc…the cars they offer are about 175,000 miles cars at least!

It doesn't often happen - but I have to disagree with roadadvisor here. There are lots of posts on this forum about the discount card saving people money and it's worth looking into. Vamos is a very reputable rental car company which can also be seen from the many posts with positive feedback here on the forum.

While we`re on the subject could someone suggest what I should do here? It was 10 days ago that I sent an e-mail to Solid car rental in Dominical asking them to quote me a price on a vehicle I intend to rent for a few days in February. I have not heard from them.

Your best bet is just to call them. 1-800-390-7065 (In the US)

Not sure why you got no answer - but - I've rented from them and they are a good company.

If you're not getting a response before you book, I would wonder about service after you book..

Maybe they didn't get your email ... I would email them again and if no response, then look at other options.
