Transportation services

We will be in Guatemala from Jan 20 to Feb 1.

We want to start by flying to Tikal on the 21st, returning to go to Antigua and then Lake Atitlan and the western highlands. We are told we should not drive and so are looking for guided transport. What do you recommend? Thanks, Fran

It sounds like you need a guidebook. There are many tourist shuttles that can take you between the Guatemala City airport and Antigua, and Antigua and Lake Atitlan/other tourist locations. Any guidebook will have information on how to get around the country, and list the contact information for shuttle/transportation services.

Thanks for posting this, Fran! I'm travelling to Guatemala as well in late January with almost the similar itinerary, and was also wondering about arranging transportation. Does anyone know of private transportation (agency/person) to contact where one could arrange a private car for a customized route? For instance we are looking to go from GC to Xela but don't want to take the shared shuttles which all seem to make stops in Antigua on the way.

Hi DC_Chapin - thanks for this link you posted, it's been helpful and their rates seem reasonable. I've reached out to them to organize a private car service. Appreciate it!

You don't need to take a shared shuttle to Xela because there is excellent first class direct service on comfortable buses on a four lane highway.Transportes Galgos, Alamo, Linea Dorada have good service with several departures . You need to check the schedule here www.thebusschedule.com/gt

The 1st class buses would be really comfortable - much more so than share shuttles. If you can spring for a private shuttle, though, it's really nice to be able to choose the schedule and make stops enroute. Here are 2 transportation providers I’ve been pleased with in Guatemala for share shuttles, private transfers, and flight arrangements:

Thank you Kyle2009 and Hopefulist! Really appreciate the tips and the confirmation of the first class bus, wasn't aware of this option.
