Tipping drivers and guides

We have a drive taking us from GUA to Antigua, the cost was 50.00 US. What would be an appropriate tip in quetzals? Want to make sure we give a fair amount. What about a guide for 1/2 city tour, again cost was 50.00 US.

Thanks again

Tipping is not necessary or expected in Guatemala. If you have a private shuttle from the airport and you have excellent service, you can give a small tip. $5 would be fine. More, if it's on Dec 24 or 25 or January 1 or 2, since those drivers are away from their families during the holidays. If you have a shared shuttle, I don't think there is any need to tip at all.

Similarly, if you have a privately-contracted guide, a tip is a little more common than if you are sharing a guide with a bunch of people. Again, since a tip is not expected, you can use your judgement on how much to tip. If you have a fantastic guide, you could tip $10-$20 and it will be much appreciated.

Drivers do not expect to be tipped unless they end up going way out of their way for you or end up turning into informal guides. I take a different view with actual tour guides. The official 2013 non-agricultural minimum wage is pegged at just under $9/day, so our generosity for a job well done can go a really long way. :D Have an amazing trip.
