First time in Roatan help

We are two families with kids ages 8, 12 and 14, all divers except the youngest. We are coming to Roatan in October and can't decide if we should rent a house, stay in an all inclusive or stay in other lodging. What part of the island would be best? We want to avoid cruiseship traffic. We want to dive every day. Any help would be great! Thank you!

why not try somewhere like AKR that has food included and dive and snorkel packages, they have a great program, just make sure you get on a dive boat with people of the same skill level! Very quiet as far as cruise shipppers except when they come for the dolphins, which are amazing! Your kids could wander and you would not have to worry about them.

the dive-your-a**-off resorts are probably better for adults than for kids. I'm concerned that after the diving they may get bored, being stuck on an island like AKR or Fantasy Island or Cocoview, with no one to talk to or hang out with other than old divers. Roatan has a number of these isolated dive resorts which are great for people who live and breathe diving. Would your kids be satisfied with that? Maybe they'd be happier some place closer to some action, probably West Bay. And we all know that happy kids make everyone happier.

Thank you for your advice. We decided to rent a house in West Bay.

Any advice about the best dive shop to use?

Look into staying at St Mac's upper. We stayed there this May and loved it . 3 bedrooms, excellent kitchen and your on the beach.Plenty of places to eat.

We used Ocean Connections, which is a 2 minute walk from St. Mac's.I;ve dove with them the past 2 years and like the fact they are small and only take 4 or 5 divers at a time.

We have dived with Bananarama for 2 years and would highly recommend them. We also stayed at St Mac's and highly recommend that upper unit.

Look at Palmetto Bay - best of both worlds.
