Can I find maps of the island in the airport

HI, I'll be traveling to the big island at the end of this month. I would like to know does the airport (Kona international airport) provides maps of the island to vistors?

Yes. Many airlines also hand them out when you're landing.

I've never noticed any in the airport. The car companies provide maps of a sort. Google Maps are also very useful, as is Google Earth. Also AAA.

Are you flying from mainland to Kona, or to HNL first. Fairly often on inter island flights we have gotten decent maps. Though I would not count on it.

We always take our AAA map of Hawaii. It is good for mileages island layout. I have a Hawaiian Airlines handout for BI here. It is pretty good map, but I usually pick up one of the coupon type booklets which have good maps of towns with stores. Island Gold may be one, I forget.. They are usually in airports

Then I am a map person.

The airport itself does not give you anything, although there are many of those promotional brochures on display in racks.

There is a full street map of the Big Island sold at gas stations.

The rental car drive map is useful because it marks the main attractions and sort of filters out the stuff tourists don't need.

My favorite map is a topo map and shows all the lava flows by date. It is done by University of Hawai'i Press, and costs $3. A bargain at that price.

This is the website for shopping uhpress for this item:

I'm fairly sure it's available on Amazon as well.

Here's the online edition of the Rental Car Drive Guide previously mentioned:

honolulupublishing.com/HawaiiMaps/hawaii_map…

Also, visitor guides, such as "This Week on the Big Island", available in the baggage claim area, have maps (and money saving coupons).

Sunset is great from the top of Mauna Kea, look into a summit tour. Otherwise I love sunset at Makaiwa Bay at the Mauna Lani, great colors with the fishponds. Kikaua Point/Kukio Beach is a nice spot too.

I can't help you with sunrise...ain't my thing unless I'm forced into dawn patrol with the surfer girl. :-)
