Blue Hawaiian Helicopters Still Safe?

I recently booked my family of four on Blue Hawaiian Helicopters Kauai for an upcoming trip in October. It appeared as if this was a highly recommended company in two travel books that I have as well as on Trip Advisor. Now I have seen some recent news on crashes and fatalities and must say I am freaking out a bit and considering cancelling. Does anyone have any information on which helicopter tour has the best safety record? Why is this company recommended so highly with these recent incidents?

Blue Hawaiian has a very good record on Kauai and I felt incredibly safe and have used them on almost every island. It wasn't my time and probably won't be yours either.

What recent news did you hear about?

If it freaks you out don't go. Its not the end all of activities.

Are you confusing the recent crashes of military helicopters with the tour helicopters?

I have not seen anything on commercial sight seeing helicopter crashes for years. Seems like last on I saw, and the only one I can really remember was in the Grand Canyon. Don't remember that I ever saw one in Hawaii.

So what have you seen that says otherwise ?

The stats are available online, if you are worried.

I haven't heard of any BH accidents lately. Can you link to the reports you found?

I havenʻt heard of any crashes recently either. Bear in mind, helicopters are inherently dangerous; ask any pilot. None of the companies here has a perfect record.

Agree with everybody else, I haven't heard of any tour helicopter crashes lately.

Military ones? Yes? A couple of people renting small airplanes on Oahu and crashing? Yes. Major tour company helicopters? Nope.

Why is that ?

Why? The Jesus Nut, of course...

Any kind of aviation can be called inherently dangerous. If proper procedures aren't followed and maintenance isn't completed, incidents invariably happen. Thankfully, there is plenty of both professionalism and oversight in our commercial aviation industry. Safety fears are largely irrational.
