?? Link to Survey for "Which Island would I like best?"

Recently, I saw a link to a survey where you answer a bunch of questions about how important various things are to you, and the survey tabulates your answers and tells you which Hawaiian Island you would most enjoy.

Not sure if it was here, or on another forum.

Anyone have the link?

Sorry Hank...

But,we can kind of let you know how we see the islands.

KAUAI: Great beauty, phenominal hiking, rivers to kayak, wonderful scenic views, and lots of aloha.

Snorkeling is in the OK dept, and we have lots of beaches, that vary from tourist filled to almost deserted.

Peaceful surroundings

, and very moderate night life.

---------------------------------------------------

HAWAII ( Big Island ) When I hear the word BI, I automatically think about the fabulous snorkeling, and SCUBA diving.

Also, most people want to see the lava fields of the volcano.

Ocean kayaking, sea caves, and also guided hikes on private land.

Kona town, a fun and lively ocean view town, where we enjoyed seeing friends, and checking out the restaurants and bars.

We also had fun times on Capt. Beans Party Barge, as well as a snorkeling trip to Capt. Cooks with Capt. Zodiac.

So, BI for great snorkeling, and partying, and that volcano.

Also, several upscale accomodations.

----------------------------------------------------

MAUI: Our visits there were a lot of party time fun.

We also had a sailing/ snorkeling trip over to Lana'i, As well as a catamaran snorkeling trip over to Molokini.

We did not do any hiking, which we would look much more into when we returned.

Night life was pretty good....the party light was lit.

Long sandy Beaches, lots of tall hotels.

Mostly , we met people in Lahina, talked story, and partied.

-----------------------------------------------------

I guess it all depends on what is important to you.

Some into are shoping, and shoping, and browzing botiques, and eating out at resorts. They like laying around a pool, and eating and drinking.

I would say Maui, or Oahu would appeal more to those who enjoy that type of a vacation.

Same for those who want lots of night life, and bright lights.

I would also think that those into surfing, as well as the big wave riding, and surfing contests would definitely head for the north shore of OAHU.

----------------------------------------------------

If Nature, and exercising, and being active, and exploring is important, then I would say Kauai.

Not that people do not fly over here to sit at a resort, and not move much, because they do.

It feels good for them to just totally relax from the stress of the mainland.

But, many like Kauai , because they are active and fit, and love the beauty that is all around us.

And they want to be out experiencing all of that.

-----------------------------------------------------

Don't have any idea what the computer says, all I can do is look at what we have observed.

We have had a great time on Maui, and the Big Island, and fully intend taking some short within our state trips.......a fun change and new stuff.

I guess it just comes down to us enjoying and aclimaing to wherever we are.

We like em all.

Just took the survey and I thought this was interesting:

Restaurants

[Oahu:9 Maui:10 Kauai:10 Big Island:8]

Hawaii has many world class chefs and restaurants with several hotels noted for their exceptional dining (price included).

Kauai tied with Maui on restaurants?

This is also interesting and confirms what I already thought. Will the new regulations on vacation rentals outside of the VDA affect this?

Selection of Budget Vacation Homes

[Oahu:7 Maui:4 Kauai:10 Big Island:10]

With recent laws restricting vacation homes on Maui, that island suffers in this department. Oahu and Kauai are also facing new regulations but have more space designated for so called transient rentals.

I think I've taken this survey before, and pretty much come up with the same results:

#1-Kauai

#2-Maui

#3-Oahu

#4-Big Island

Not sure why Oahu is ahead of the Big Island, but probably because "Secluded Beaches" was very important to me, and I know there are some on Oahu but very few on the Big Island.

Oahu was first. Kauai came last. No surprise since I was going for shopping and restaurants.

So easy to categorize, generalize, and stereotype... i don't care for "partying" much at all, but having visited five of the Hawaiian islands several times over 30 years, it's Maui that keeps calling me back. When I was a teenager I loved the excitement of Honolulu, now Maui and the Big Island are my favorites. Kauai has its lovely parts and I will visit again, but it doesn't just "grab me" the way Maui does. I say, visit as many islands as you can as often as you can!

I think Hawaiian Airlines had something similar. I took this one and my list was Maui (186), Oahu (185), Kauai (184) and BI (175) so not much of a difference.
