All of the video rental stores have closed in our small town, Blockbuster and Holyywood video. People are using Netflix, Vudu and other online streaming services. I was disappointed when I saw the little store in Koloa has closed.

Red Box is the way to go! Also check your condo rental as they might have dvds in the condo. Between On Demand, Netflix, online streaming etc, Blockbusters and Hollywood videos are dinosaurs.

Our local Blockbuster is closing also, but there are still others around. That business model seems to be going the way of the dodo bird.

Thanks for the tip on Red Box. I guess I was not aware that it was located in Poipu (in the Whaler's).

Aloha from Kaua'i!

Red Box seems to be just about everywhere - from out in Waimea to the far North Shore - it apparently fills the need for those who are visiting or those who live here and don't yet have Netflix or another online service.

For those of us fortunate enough to live here (or to have a library card - you can buy one as a visitor!) - many of the libraries here have an amazing selection of DVD's - the one here in Koloa is absolutely top notch!

And the best part? $1.00 for a 7 day rental!

Janet,

Do you have to be a resident to get a library card for the one in Koloa? You mentioned "buy one as a visitor". Do you know the cost? We come often enough that it would be worth while, especially for my husband. He liked to veg at night with a nice movie when he done with his work.

I believe non residents can get a 5 year library card for $25 and a 3 month card for $10. I think both can be renewed and used at any of the libraries.

Janet can probably confirm this

Aloha from Kaua'i!

And if you want the short term one - $10 for 3 months.

Not all libraries have DVDs and some are known for having a great selection -I know that Princeville, Lihu'e and Koloa are the ones that have a reputation for really up to date films - Koloa Library received some type of bequest or something similar from a visitor I believe just to keep their DVD library really top notch!
