Funny you all say that I am staying North Shore in September :)
How long are you going to be on Kaua‘i? In Sept I too would stay North, but If you have 10 days or more, definitely consider splitting your stay between North shore and south. If your time is short, 3-4 nights, then maybe Lihue, but I think I'd stay in Kapa‘a rather than Lihue.
I own a timeshare at Bali Hai Villas in Princeville on the north shore but my friend, who lives there, wants to go south!!! Something about there not being enough to do on the northshore. She's a city girl and since she and her husband moved there she has had rock fever. ;) At this point the only timeshare trade I can get is in Lihue, but I will continue to try to get an opening in Poipu. Thanks for the input. :)
I have stayed on 4 Kauai "shores" (south, north, west, and east) and enjoyed them equally. I liked the east shore for convenience and nice sunrises.
Not being much of a foodie or shopaholic, seemed like there were more budget places to eat and shop also. In all honesty, I would say that the Poipu area is my least favorite...but I know I am in the vast minority.
If only those two options, Poipu for sure. I would choose North Shore too and did for September but Poipu is much nicer than the area you have planned. The trouble you might have is availability. It looks like you might be arranging a timeshare since the property you mentioned is just that. If its all you can get then its fine. They are off by themselves (well the Aqua is next door) and the ocean isn't good for swimming, but you will be fine.
much better chance of a quieter ocean in Poipu, as well as snorkeling.
I get a bit confused with all of the name changes of some of the resorts, but I believe you will at the old hilton, on Kauai Beach Road just north of the airport.
It is a nice property, and removed from the masses of humaniods that you will encounter in Poipu. So, if you cannot change, do not go ballistic. You will have ocean views, an excellent restaurant and bar, nice pool area and jacuzzi, and a long beach to stroll.
For other activities you will have to drive, but no big deal.
Poipu area, will have a lot more very close things to see and do, with a swimmable ocean in sept and snorkeling.
Either way your visit will be great....just do not stress over switching.
