Catamarans for Na Pali Coast Boat Tour for sea caves?

We have a dilemma here:

torn between being able to get inside and see the sea caves and waterfalls or just seeing them from a distance outside on a catamaran.

Can someone share their experience between Boat tours on catamaran when able to go inside sea caves and what is the difference with the bigger catamarans not able to get in because of sizes?

We will have our kids wit us (under 12). So, please advise of what would be best: smaller or bigger catamarans to get into sea caves and under waterfalls....which company would you recommend for such that has a shaded area and offers comfort?

Thanks.

absolutely.....LIKO CRUISES......and they are great !

808-338-0333

been with them a couple of times. Superb !

49 foot power catamaran, and they definitely go deep into the sea caves.

Pretty fast boat, and leaving from the west side, we went quite a ways down the coast until we could see hanakapiai beach....well past the kalalau vallley.

Excellent, friendly and professional crew, with narations as we cruiesed along the coast.

After going into the sea caves, stopping for photo ops, and checking out some small waterfalls, we did a 180 and then pulled into nualolo kai for lunch and snorkeling off the boat, before returning to the west side and our cars.

We checked in at Obsessions Cafe in Waimea, when we went with them, and then drove our cars the short distance to Kikaola Small Boat Harbor. Plenty of parking, life was easy.

Just a couple of tips.

They have a huge marine head area on the starboard side. The galley is on the port side, and you fix up your own monster sandwhiches.

What we do, is the galley opens up once they are moored at nualolol kai, and everyone else is getting into their snorkel gear. This takes some time, so , we went to the galley and made our lunches, and then after all the mele was finished with the visitors going into the water, we had finished lunch, and then donned our mask and snorkels and fins in about 1 minute and went into the water for snorkeling.

Also, when you arrive at the boat...we like to sit up forward with the wind, and waves, and have a hooting good time....but for those who are a bit more reserved, and likd some shade, there is a aft canopy, as well as a much dryer area toward the stern.

Comfort is basic pew like seats that run athwart ships ( port to starboard ) and face forward toward the bow. If you are looking for a luxery, sea cave boat, good luck....they do not exist as far as I know. Luxury dinner cruise would the the SOUTHERN STAR by Capt. Andy.

This vessel is 40 ft in length, but they go well deep into the sea caves, of course time of year and safety will have an effect on entering the sea caves.

Highly recommend Liko Kauai. They do a great job, and the entire experience was excellent.

OH, and you must remain seated while underway, except for head calls.

Actually, the vessel in 49th feet in length......sorry about that....

Check out their website , and see if they are appropriate for you all.

also, after snorkeling there is a long slow line for the small galley. That is why we eat first.

We have done both - trip from Hanalei with Na Pali Catamaran and Sunset cruise with Captain Andy's from Port Allen on the Southern Star. We enjoyed them both, but if I had to choose one strictly for the purpose of seeing the Na Pali Coast, I'd go with the smaller catamaran that can go in the sea caves - especially in the summer when the ocean is calmer. Going inside the sea caves is so much better than just seeing them from the outside.Try to get on a morning tour when the seas will tend to be calmer.
