Lawai International Center tours - are reservations needed?

Tour days...website says 2nd & last Sundays. Are reservations necessary or can we just show up at a posted tour time? Yes, I've emailed them, but haven't heard back yet.

Is this the spot with the mini temples scattered over a hillside?

If so, I don't recall any need for a res. There's a parking lot and then a trail you wander among the little shrines that represent a real string of temples in Japan.

Yes, that's it. I was up there once when the gate was open, but no one there...I didn't feel it would be right to wander around.

You will enjoy the presentation and history of the site and appreciate the efforts of a lot off caring people if you take the tour.

Going through a closed access gate on private property is not cool.

Sorry 3C's I forgot to answer your original question, no Reservation is required.

If you arrive early or between presentations they will seat you and give you some excellent green tea and homemade red bean mochi while you wait.

On Saturdays the nice older lady that owns the property allows the Lawai International people access to her property; they mow all of the pasture area and trim everything neatly, set up their tents and bring in porta potties. There is no charge but of course they do accept donations. In the summer they have a celebration with live music, Japanese flute and Taiko Kauai, Children of Niihau etc..

When we asked if we could visit at other times we were politely told that the property owners preferred not to be disturbed by people un-escorted on their property. In the past there has been a lot of vandalism and theft.

This is a sacred site to many people.

Perfect, just what I needed to know! Hubby wants to do some fishing on the South & West side (we're staying North), so this will be a good opportunity to visit...when we arrive will depend on the fish!

Mahalo!

Aloha from Kaua'i!

I know that there are tours and activities on the second and the last Sunday of every month - booths are set up with various activities that you can participate in and the tours are also during that time - sometimes there is live music. It is a very quiet place and not very large - but very lovely.

I think this link was already given, but here it is again:

I made reservations a few weeks ago for a Sunday tour. I think they do prefer that reservations are made, though Im sure if you did show up, they wouldnt turn you away.
