Quick travel question

Hello :) We are staying at a condo in Puu Poa in early May...is it possible to walk from there to Hanalei? If yes, about how long of a walk...thank you! :)

I suppose in some definition of the word it IS possible, but it's not recommended - if you went via the beach you'd have to cross the river mouth to get to the Hanalei Bay side; via the road would be unsuccessful as you would most likely get hit by a car... =[

No!

You would need to walk up through Princeville (2 miles) and along Kuhio Highway and down the steep hill which would be about an hour walk + if you even could, but theres no sidewalk. Some people have walked along Puu Poa Beach and tried to cross the river that separates that beach and Hanalei Bay, but unless the river is REALLY low, I do not recommend that. In the movie The Descendants, it made it seem like it was possible, but its really not. Its a less than 10 minute drive to Hanalei Town.

Thank you...we will have a car, but I was curious if we were going to be able to take a stroll in the mornings to breakfast :)

You know, you are staying in a most beautiful area there in Princeville, and for a morning stroll, there is a marvelous trail that winds along the golf course next to the road that you drove into princeville...you can see it from the road.

It is really very nice, lots of trees, and lushness, and the green of the golf course. What a great way to start your day.

Also, you could walk over to the st. reggie, and walk down their paved steps that lead down to Pu'u Poa beach and over toward the hanalei river. Same beach that is shared by the Hanalei Bay Resort.

You get get in some leg stretching exerice and enjoy the scenery and the beach that overlooks hanalei bay.....and the mountains.....take your camera.

There a couple of ideas that we have had the oppotunity to hike/walk........very nice.

Pick u the Ultimate Kauai Guidebook, for other hikes up in that area that are very short drives. The Okolehau Trail, and the Powerline Trail. The Hanakapiai Trail is at the end of the road near Ke'e Beach.

If you want a nice walk, drive to the Hanalei Pier parking lot, walk the gorgeous crecent shaped bay, when you get to the lifeguard tower, walk up to the road and back to the pier along Weke Rd. Oogle and the beautiful homes and dream about renting one or owning one some day. Go have breakfast at Wake Up Cafe or Hanalei Coffee Roaster and soak in the funkiness of Hanalei.
