Bonine for a child

From your personal experience, did anyone here gave bonine (meclizine) to a child and did they experience any side effects? I would like to help my 11 years old to prevent seasickness on a doors off helicopter ride and Holo-Holo morning boat tour but concerned about side effects. Would like to hear personal stories only. I am well aware about medical info. I am going to ask pediatrician too but would like to know from your real life experience.

My middle daughter's pediatric neurologist advised me to give her Bonine (Meclizine) when traveling as she got horrific motion sickness (she suffered from pediatric opthalmic migraines as well). I would not give a young child anything without consulting with their pediatrician or specialist. It worked very well for my little girl, and still works very well for our now grown family when needed.

I found this online:

"Meclizine should not be given to a child younger than 12 years old". Your daughter is 11 and probably on the border so yes ask you pharmacist and doctor and don't go by what anyone here says.

Thank you everyone. As I wrote in OP "I am going to ask pediatrician too but would like to know from your real life experience." Of course I am not going to use any meds without pediatrician's approval, but even with his approval want to see how other children tolerated it in real life. She will be 11 yrs 8 months in August.

Aloha Apple,

She actually did very well, with little drowsiness. She was in 3rd or 4th grade at the time we started giving her Bonine. That child couldn't even keep from getting motion sickness on an hour turnpike drive when she was small, so the Bonine was a really big help. I was glad her Dr ok'd giving it to her. And please know that I did see your comment that you would be checking with your pediatrician. :-D Let us know how your child does on the trip. Happy planning!
