Info on State Park Closures

Given the impending weather and knowing that the Kalalau Trail has been closed until further notice, where would be the best and most up to date place to get information on other state parks? We have planned to drive up to the Waimea Canyon tomorrow and hike the Nuololo Trail but don't want to make the drive from the North is it's going to be shut down!

Good scoops from Shea.....you can also search THE GARDEN ISLAND NEWSPAPER on the web....large article in todays news about closures for different parks and campers due to the Hurricane, now down to a category one, and expected to bring lots of rain when it arrives as a tropical storm.

also, before going on any hiking trails up in koke'e you can call the ladies up at the Koke'e Museum after about 9 am or so for udates as to trail conditions. We check the late afternoon, before we plan to hike up there. Phone number is in the UKG.

As far as we are concerned, we are getting in our hikes now before the rain and wind arrive. Yesterday was beautiful. Hiked first and then went swimming in the ocean at Kalapaki Beach. However, we will be staying clear of many of the wilderness trails during and after these two storms pass due to muddy conditions. That is our personal choice.

I posted the page last night on another post and as of now many of the trails are closed. Helicopters were going to fly over the Kalalau Trail to ask people to leave.
