Ragweed Allergies

Newbie to Maui, leave tomorrow morning, may sound silly, anyone know what ragweed levels are like in August? It's a yearly thing for me starting in August & they're beginning to hit me now. Just want to be well prepared so they don't interfere with my trip.

We don't really have ragweed here--but we have many other plants that *may* cause you problems. Each person is different. Bring your allergy meds.

Bring your favorite allergy medicine because things are blooming all year. Funny thing is my allergies were 100% better in Kihei vs. going back to Denver. The fact my accommodations were both clean, dust/mold free probably helped more than anything. If you are "lucky" though you will get a good whiff of the vog :-)

Yep... I have allergies at home but rarely bug me on Maui... I bring my medicine just in case though. Vog does affect me some now if it is bad.. but mostly through a headache or I can feel it in my sinuses when I am free diving.

I think it depends on how long you will be staying. First six months were great for me. No allergies. But after a couple of years, I started to experience allergies none stop. Did the blood test and found out that I am allergic almost to everything that grows here. The similar test did not indicate any allergies before. Sort of histamine fatigue if you will. Hope it helps.

I agree that things change. I was never bothered by cane smoke, even though I lived next to working fields. I wasn't bothered by vog for years, but now have terrible issues.

Some plants that I used to have later became problem plants. Ya never know!
