There is a KMart right around the corner from the airport:

What do you mean by "core groceries?" Our Walmart is not a super Walmart and has only a small selection of food items, such as Walmart branded snack items & soda, condiments, a freezer case full of frozen manapua, and aisle of saimin, along with seasonal items and odds and ends. The liquor section is very small and the selection is minimal. I have never noticed the prices there to be any better than at Long's.

You'll find even less at KMart.

Where are you staying? There are Safeways and Long's in both Kihei and Lahaina, on the way to the resort areas.

Yes. Stop at the Safeway in Lahaina. You'll drive right by on the way to The Mahana.

we usually go to Costco for drinks and snacks and then get everything else at Safeway, Foodland or Star Market. There is a Star Market directly across the street from The Mahana.

Safeway is a better option for food but Walmart does have cereal, bread, milk and snack food that is generally cheaper than Safeway. Walmart also has inexpensive souvineers (sp). Once you pass Kmart and another large strip mall with a Borders, you will turn left at the next light. You'll see a used car and motorcycle dealership on the left. The street you turn left on is Pakaula - you'll initially see only the Home Depot and then Walmart on your left again. Wallies also has pretty good snorkel gear if you feel you need to invest. You can do 1 hour photography - I think it takes about double that time though, get sunscreen.

When you get to Safeway, get a Safeway card. It takes just a couple of minutes and will safe you big time, though you'll also spend big time. Do like Chisue does and bring your own salt and pepper and a few other favorites in plastic baggies as most condos don't keep even that. I guess that's it.

most condos will have salt and pepper, I wouldn't bother packing them. We have never stayed in one that didn't.

To answer one of you questions yes Costco is very near the airport. You come out of the airport on Keolani Rd. and at the light with Dairy Rd. it's right there on the left. Can't miss it. Turn left on the Haleakala Hwy. and go behind the store and turn right into parking lot. Check the link below and click on the "hybrid" button and you can zoom right in on it. Costco is #2 on the list.

We get pineapples, snacks and bottled water there ourselves.

Your Canadian Safeway card will work in the US. (You won't get Airmiles though--that is only in Canada.)
