multi island trip

We would like to do 2 weeks in the Fall - 1 week in Kaanapali, Maui and 1 week in Princeville, Kauai. We live in Chicago. We have AA miles to redeem. Trying to figure out the best way to arrange this -

fly ORD to LIH - then inter island to OGG - then back to LIH and then home? THe other way around? Flying into Honolulu and then LIH/OGG back to Honolulu then home?

Any advice?

Do you have enough AA miles for a multi-stop ticket, flying from ORD to LIH, purchasing a 1-way ticket on Hawaiian Air from LIH to OGG, then flying from OGG to ORD.

When we used AA miles about 4 years ago, it was more "miles friendly" to fly from PIA (Peoria to HNL) r/t and purchase tickets for the inter-island flights on Hawaiian Air. We went to the Big Island and then to Maui, but flew back to HNL for our return trip home.

Of course, that was when Hawaiian had $29 dollar flights.

From DFW I used miles for the mainland trip and then decided to apy for the inter-island tickets because when you have a STOP it is actually 10K miles. Example Maui to Kauai going through HNL is 10K miles....plus you ahd taxes that equaled 25 to 50.00 anyway. It wasn't worth using the miles to me.
