Hyatt is a luxury hotel with large rooms-450 sq.ft., well appointed-beautiful ground, swimming pools, separate pool for kids-NO we did NOT see any bed bugs on our trip in Feb.of 2010-the hotel has since had a renovation-I really don't know where these complaints come from. Hawaii is a tropical, so, it wouldn't surprise me if you saw cockroaches occasinally, outside-this can happen at any hotel. I would strongly recommend against changing resrvation on bed bug story-please post a review on your return-enjoy.

I live in nyc and have a huge bed bug phopia because it's an epidemic around here. After doing tons of research and talking to many people who have had them I learned that Bed bugs DO NOT discriminate. They love clean fancy resort hotels just as much as they love dumpy motels. The Waldorf Astoria had them. Always check the mattresses and never put your clothes in the drawers of any hotel no matter where it is.

Here is a link to a listing of hotels in Maui where bedbugs were reported: http://www.bedbugreports.com/city/hi-maui

I didn't see the Hyatt, but that could just be because no one reported it. Please don't think that just because you pay a lot for a hotel that it is going to be free of bed bugs.

Aloha,

That site is not some official one........it's not verified or independently confirmed. Does it mean that reports aren't true? Maybe, maybe not.

Vengeance is mine, said the unhappy guest............whether it's true or not, whether the guest was in the wrong about something, whatever. The internet is a sword for some.

I recall that one report about bugs at the Sheraton-or maybe the Westin-was totally refuted and proved untrue by the hotel. Always at least two sides to a story!

Bedbugs could be anywhere, luxury or not. And just because a hotel is not listed on a bedbug registry doesn't mean that the guest before you didn't bring little friends. It's prudent to always check out the room before unpacking - this site has a good description of how to check your hotel room for bedbugs: …about.com/od/insectssociety/a/avoid-bed-bug…

I haven't stayed at the Hyatt but I hear great things about it, both from well-traveled friends and this site. I wouldn't let fear of bed bugs stop you from staying there.

Thank you for the replies. You all have very logical points , and it makes me feel much better knowing that none of you have negative things to say about the Hyatt. Like I said , it is for a very special occasion and I am trying to make it as perfect as possible for my husband . Thanks everybody ! If anybody has any more info for our trip ,I would love to get any. I have never been to Maui and we are very excited!

Aloha,

Glad we could ease your mind!

There are tons of things to see and do on Maui. A good place to start is right here, reading threads for ideas. Have fun exploring and you'll get a feel for specific questions as you go. There are threads about just about everything-from food to hikes to snorkeling to luaus to walking on the beach to driving tours to...........well, ya' prob have the idea, LOL!

Steenie -- also know that folks often can be bitten by any number of little buggers anywhere ... and then assume that it is bedbugs at the hotel.

I don't know if it's in the web site posted above or not but I've heard it's good to leave your bags in the bathroom--they can't live on tile surfaces. Hyatt might be hard, I recall small tiled area. =) Oh well. We loved the Hyatt.

One thing we did to guard against getting cockroaches in our room is put any food related trash in the hallway trash can by the elevator. Never saw a cockroach on our stay there. I've stayed there twice.

I have never had bed bugs at any resort in HI. I know there are out there, but I've never seen them.

But no matter where you are, never, ever put your suit case on your bed. Unpack it on a the cart thingy they provide or a hard surface like a table.

Hyatt Regency is great.
